CHE SIGNIFICA ODONTOPHORE IN INGLESE
Odontophore
Il odontoforo fa parte del meccanismo di alimentazione nei molluschi. È la cartilagine che sottende e sostiene la radula, un nastro di denti. La radula si trova in ogni classe di molluschi ad eccezione delle bivalvi. L'apparecchio di alimentazione può essere esteso dalla bocca dell'animale e il nastro radiale può scivolare sul odontoforo. Spostando la radula e odontoforo su una superficie, i denti tagliano e raccolgono le particelle alimentari e li trasportano in bocca, da dove entrano nell'esofago. I diagrammi qui mostrano l'apparato di alimentazione di un gasteropodo. Si noti tuttavia che si tratta di un diagramma generalizzato, i cui dettagli non si applicano necessariamente a specie predatorie di gasteropodi come le lumache cono, che hanno un meccanismo di alimentazione altamente specializzato.
