Il sovradosaggio si riferisce ad un modo di vedere la disuguaglianza globale che si concentra sulle conseguenze negative del consumo eccessivo. Domandando come e perché lo sviluppo irregolare sia prodotto nel mondo, si può valutare il ruolo e la responsabilità del globo globale come "sovracomprenditori" nella produzione di disuguaglianze globali. Secondo diverse indagini, il consumo apparentemente non rende le persone particolarmente felici, ma piuttosto aumenta l'impronta ecologica dell'Occidente.
