Statistiche parametriche
Le statistiche parametriche sono un ramo di statistiche che presuppone che i dati provengano da un tipo di distribuzione di probabilità e che rendano inferiori circa i parametri della distribuzione. La maggior parte dei metodi statistici elementari ben noti sono parametrici. In generale i metodi parametrici fanno più ipotesi rispetto ai metodi non parametrici. Se queste ipotesi supplementari sono corrette, i metodi parametrici possono produrre stime più accurate e precise. Si dice che abbiano più potere statistico. Tuttavia, se le ipotesi non sono corrette, i metodi parametrici possono essere molto fuorvianti. Per questo motivo spesso non sono considerati robusti. D'altra parte, le formule parametriche sono spesso più semplici da scrivere e più veloci da calcolare. In alcuni, ma sicuramente non tutti i casi, la loro semplicità compensa la loro non robustezza, specialmente se si prende cura di esaminare le statistiche diagnostiche.
