Nella matematica, un derivato parziale di una funzione di più variabili è il suo derivato rispetto a una di quelle variabili, mentre gli altri sono costanti. I derivati parziali vengono utilizzati nel calcolo vettoriale e nella geometria differenziale. Il derivato parziale di una funzione f rispetto alla variabile x è diversamente indicato dal simbolo Parziale-derivato ∂. Uno dei primi usi noti del simbolo nella matematica è il marchese de Condorcet del 1770, che lo ha usato per differenze parziali. La moderna notazione derivata parziale è di Adrien-Marie Legendre, anche se più tardi ha abbandonato; Carl Gustav Jacob Jacobi ha introdotto il simbolo nel 1841.
