CHE SIGNIFICA PHOTOSPHERE IN INGLESE

La fotosfera di un oggetto astronomico è la profondità del guscio esterno di una stella da cui viene emessa luce. Il termine stesso deriva da radici greche antiche, φῶς, φωτός / phos, foto che significano "luce" e σφαῖρα / sphaira significano "sfera", in riferimento al fatto che si tratta di una superficie sferica che si percepisce emettendo luce. Si estende fino alla superficie di una stella finché il plasma diventa opaco, equivalente ad una profondità ottica di circa 2/3. In altre parole, una fotosfera è la regione più profonda di un oggetto luminoso, di solito una stella, che è trasparente ai fotoni di determinate lunghezze d'onda.
