Pre-echo è un artefatto digitale di compressione audio in cui si sente un suono prima che si verifichi. È più evidente in suoni impulsivi provenienti da strumenti a percussione quali castagni o cembali. Si verifica in algoritmi di compressione audio basati sulla trasformazione - tipicamente basati sulla trasformata cosmica discreta modificata - come MP3, MPEG-4 AAC e Vorbis, ed è dovuta al rumore di quantizzazione diffuso su tutta la finestra di trasformazione del codec.
