Preconscio
Nella psicoanalisi freudiana, la parola preconscio si applica a pensieri inconsci nel momento particolare in questione, ma non repressi e quindi disponibili per richiamare e facilmente "capaci di diventare coscienti" - una frase attribuita da Sigmund Freud a Joseph Breuer . Freud contrappone il preconscio sia al cosciente che all'inconscio nel suo cosiddetto sistema topografico della mente. Il preconscio può anche fare riferimento a informazioni disponibili per l'elaborazione cognitiva ma che attualmente sono al di fuori della consapevolezza cosciente. Una delle forme più comuni di elaborazione preconsciata è la priming. Altre forme comuni di elaborazione preconsciata sono la punta del fenomeno della lingua e della tonalità acustica.
