Nel comportamento organizzativo e nella psicologia industriale / organizzativa, la proattività o il comportamento proattivo degli individui si riferiscono a comportamenti anticipatori, orientati al cambiamento e auto-iniziati in situazioni, in particolare nel luogo di lavoro. Il comportamento proattivo comporta l'agire in anticipo di una situazione futura, piuttosto che reagire. Significa prendere il controllo e fare le cose, piuttosto che adattarsi a una situazione o aspettare che qualcosa accada. In genere gli impiegati proattivi non devono essere richiesti per agire, né richiedono istruzioni dettagliate. Il comportamento proattivo può essere contrastato con altri comportamenti legati al lavoro, come la conoscenza, cioè il soddisfacimento di requisiti prevedibili del proprio lavoro o l'adattabilità, la copertura e il sostegno sostitutivo del cambiamento avviato da altri nell'organizzazione. Quanto a quest'ultimo, mentre l'adattabilità è di rispondere al cambiamento, la proattività sta per iniziare il cambiamento. La proattività non è limitata ai comportamenti. I dipendenti possono essere proattivi nel loro ruolo prescritto. Allo stesso modo, i comportamenti contrassegnati come comportamento organizzativo della cittadinanza possono essere svolti in modo proattivo o passivo.

In organizational behavior and industrial/organizational psychology, proactivity or proactive behavior by individuals refers to anticipatory, change-oriented and self-initiated behavior in situations, particularly in the workplace. Proactive behavior involves acting in advance of a future situation, rather than just reacting. It means taking control and making things happen rather than just adjusting to a situation or waiting for something to happen. Proactive employees generally do not need to be asked to act, nor do they require detailed instructions. Proactive behavior can be contrasted with other work-related behaviors, such as proficiency, i.e. the fulfillment of predictable requirements of one’s job, or adaptability, the successful coping with and support of change initiated by others in the organization. In regard to the latter, whereas adaptability is about responding to change, proactivity is about initiating change. Proactivity is not restricted to behaviors. Employees can be proactive in their prescribed role. Likewise, behaviors labeled as Organizational Citizenship Behavior can be carried out proactively or passively.
