La procura è l'azione di prendersi cura, quindi gestione, amministrazione, agenzia. La parola viene applicata all'autorità o al potere delegato a un procuratore, o ad agente, nonché all'esercizio di tale autorità espressa frequentemente dalla procura, o in breve per pro, o semplicemente p.p. Un uso comune di procurationem avviene in lettere aziendali, spesso firmate per conto di un'altra persona. Ad esempio, dato alla segreteria autorizzata a firmare una lettera per conto del presidente di una società, la firma ha la forma: p.p. Titolare del Segretario Nome del Presidente o Nome del Presidente p.p. Firma del segretario In pratica comunemente viene utilizzata una forma alternativa: firma del segretario p.p. Nome del Presidente L'uso corretto è oggetto di un dibattito. È stato inteso come sia "attraverso l'agenzia" che "per conto di". La ragione di questo è che il significato della frase per procurationem è ambiguo se usato con nomi inglesi indeclinabili. Procuratio è legato alle parole "pro" e "cura". È così vicino in senso di "agenzia" - agendo invece di qualcuno.
