Radiotelescopio
Un telescopio radiofonico è una forma di antenna radio direzionale utilizzata in radioastronomia. Gli stessi tipi di antenne vengono utilizzati anche per monitorare e raccogliere dati provenienti da satelliti e sonde spaziali. Nel loro ruolo astronomico differiscono dai telescopi ottici in quanto operano nella porzione di frequenza radio dello spettro elettromagnetico dove possono rilevare e raccogliere dati sulle sorgenti radio. I telescopi radio sono tipicamente grandi antenne paraboliche utilizzate singolarmente o in una matrice. Gli osservatori radiofonici si trovano preferibilmente lontani dai principali centri di popolazione per evitare interferenze elettromagnetiche da radio, TV, radar e altri dispositivi EMI. Questo è simile alla localizzazione di telescopi ottici per evitare l'inquinamento luminoso, con la differenza che gli osservatori radio sono spesso disposti in valli per proteggerli ulteriormente dall'EMI, al contrario di cime superiori di aria libera per gli osservatori ottici.
