Effetto di posizione seriale
L'effetto della posizione seriale è la tendenza di una persona a ricordare i primi e gli ultimi elementi di una serie migliore e gli elementi medi peggiori. Il termine è stato coniato da Hermann Ebbinghaus attraverso gli studi che ha eseguito su se stesso, si riferisce alla constatazione che l'accuratezza di richiamo varia in funzione della posizione di un elemento all'interno di un elenco di studi. Quando viene richiesto di richiamare un elenco di elementi in qualsiasi ordine, le persone tendono a iniziare a richiamare con la fine dell'elenco, ricordando quelle voci migliori. Tra gli elementi di elenco precedenti, i primi elementi vengono richiamati più frequentemente degli elementi medi. Un motivo suggerito per l'effetto primato è che gli elementi iniziali presentati sono più efficaci memorizzati in memoria a lungo termine a causa della maggiore quantità di elaborazione dedicata a loro. L'effetto primato è ridotto quando gli oggetti vengono presentati in modo rapido ed è migliorato quando viene presentato lentamente. Sono state trovate liste di presentazione più lunghe per ridurre l'effetto primato. Una ragione teorizzata per l'effetto recency è che questi elementi sono ancora presenti nella memoria di lavoro quando viene richiamato il richiamo. Oggetti che non beneficiano di nessuno sono richiamati più male.
