Regalità
Una regalità era una giurisdizione territoriale nella vecchia legge scozzese che potrebbe essere creata solo dal Re, concedendo terre ad un soggetto in libera regalitatem, e anche il tratto di terra su cui tale diritto esteso. Un signore di regalità aveva una giurisdizione civile uguale a quella dello sceriffo del re e più ampia competenza penale, equivalente a quella dell'Alta Corte di Giustizia. Una regalità era una giurisdizione superiore a una baronia, e potrebbe essere esercitata su baroni all'interno della regalità. La giurisdizione è stata esercitata dal tribunale di regality, di solito presieduto dal bailie o dal suo vice, e composto dai giudici della corte, che hanno tenuto terre per causa del tribunale. Inizialmente le regalità fungevano da parte del sistema di governo, delegate giurisdizione, ma dal XIV secolo i signori della regalità cercavano spesso di usurpare l'autorità regale e stabilire domini semi-indipendenti. Ma nel regno del quindicesimo secolo divenne ancora un mezzo di governo da parte dell'autorità delegata. Le regalità e le giurisdizioni regality sono state abolite dalla Legge Heritable Jurisdictions 1746.
