Anello flash
Un flash d'anello, inventato da Lester A. Dine nel 1952, originariamente utilizzato per la fotografia dentale, è un flash fotografico circolare che si adatta intorno alla lente, in particolare per l'uso in fotografia macro. La sua caratteristica più importante è quella di fornire un'illuminazione uniforme con poche ombre visibili nella fotografia, in quanto l'origine della luce è molto vicina all'asse ottico dell'obiettivo. Quando il soggetto è molto vicino alla fotocamera, come nel caso della fotografia macro, la distanza del flash dall'asse ottico diventa significativa. Per gli oggetti vicini alla fotocamera, la dimensione del flash dell'anello è significativa e così la luce incontra l'oggetto da molti angoli nello stesso modo che fa con un flash convenzionale con soft box. Questo ha l'effetto di addolcire ulteriormente le ombre. Le lampadine dell'anello sono anche molto popolari in fotografia di ritratto e di moda. Oltre a ammorbidire le ombre e creare delle luci circolari negli occhi del modello, il modo unico che un flash anulare rende la luce dà al modello un aureo ombroso che è una caratteristica comune della fotografia di moda.
