Spettrin è una proteina citoscheletrica che allinea il lato intracellulare della membrana plasmatica nelle cellule eucariotiche. La proteina viene chiamata spettrina in quanto è stata prima isolata come una componente proteica maggiore di globuli rossi umani trattati con detergenti delicati; I detersivi lisati le cellule e l'emoglobina e altri componenti citoplasmatici sono stati lavati. Nel microscopio leggero la forma di base della cellula del sangue rosso poteva ancora essere vista come lo spettro contenente cistoscheletro sommergano conservava la forma della cellula in contorno. Questo è diventato noto come "fantasma" di globuli rossi, e quindi la principale proteina del fantasma è stata chiamata spettrina.
