I piselli spaccati sono una preparazione agricola o culinaria costituita dai semi secchi, sbucciati e spezzati di Pisum sativum. Sono sbucciate, in quanto, oltre a non essere nel pod di semi in cui sono cresciuti, il processo di suddivisione rimuove anche la pelle esterna colorata del pisello. Venono in varietà gialle e verdi. I piselli sono rotondi quando raccolti e secchi. Una volta asciutta, dopo la rimozione della pelle, la separazione naturale del cotiledone del seme può essere separata manualmente o meccanicamente, in parte per incoraggiare la cottura più veloce a causa dell'incremento della superficie esposta al calore. Nei mercati, sia le verdure che le varietà gialle di piselli divise si trovano nelle rispettive selezioni, insaccate dal colore. Questi due colori riflettono alcuni dei lavori di Gregor Mendel, che ha studiato l'eredità del colore dei semi nei piselli. Il fenotipo verde è recessivo per quello giallo. Tradizionalmente, il genotipo del giallo purosangue è "YY" e quello del verde è "yy", e ibridi dei due, "Yy", hanno un fenotipo giallo (dominante). I piselli divisi sono ricchi di proteine e di grassi, contenenti solo un grammo di grasso per 350 calorie (1.500 kJ).
