La zucchero è un eucalipto del sud australiano. Si trova naturalmente in tre popolazioni distinte - nelle Flinders Ranges, Penisola di Eyre e sull'isola del canguro. Le gengive di zucchero provenienti dalle catene di Flinders raggiungono i 35m di altezza e hanno la classica abitudine "gomma", con un tronco diritto e fili ripidi che si verificano a metà strada. Ogni ramo principale si conclude con il suo piccolo baldacchino. Questi sono comunemente coltivati come vento da cortile e per legname. Tuttavia, la penisola di Eyre e gli alberi dell'isola del canguro sono molto più brevi e spesso hanno tronchi storti. E. cladocalyx non ha famigliari conosciuti all'interno del genere Eucalyptus. È notevole per la sua corteccia color giallo-arancione colorato, foglie fortemente scolorite e infiorescenze raggruppate su ramoscelli senza foglie all'interno della corona d'albero. La vecchia corteccia è liscia e grigia, sparsa in patch irregolare per esporre la corteccia marrone giallo-marrone fresco. I fiori sono in bianco cremoso in estate. Le capsule sono di barile a forma di urna.
