Malattie zymotiche, un termine medico del XIX secolo per le malattie infettive acute, in particolare "febbre capo e malattie contagiose". Zyme o microzyme è il nome dell'organismo presunto come causa della malattia. Come originariamente impiegato dal dottor W. Farr, del dipartimento britannico del segretario generale, il termine comprendeva le malattie "epidemiche, endemiche e contagiose" e sono state considerate come dovute alla loro origine alla presenza di un principio morboso nel sistema, Agendo in modo analogo a, anche se non identico, con il processo di fermentazione. Alla fine del XIX secolo, Antoine Béchamp ha proposto che gli organismi minuscoli che lui definisse "microzime", e non le cellule, costituiscono il blocco fondamentale della vita. Bechamp ha sostenuto che queste microzime sono presenti in tutte le cose - animali, vegetali e minerali, sia che vivono o siano morti. Le microzimiche sono ciò che coalesce per formare coaguli di sangue e batteri. A seconda della condizione dell'ospite, le microzime assumono varie forme. In un corpo malato, le microzimiche diventano batteri e virus patologici. In un corpo sano, le microzimiche formano cellule sane. Quando una pianta o un animale muore, le microzimiche vivono.
