राजधानी प्राग्ज्योतिष के नाम से प्रख्यात है जिसे अब गोहाटी
कहते हैं । यहाँ देवी योगनिद्रा का प्रधान स्थान है । पौराणिक
दृष्टि से यह स्थान बहुत ही पवित्र और सर्वतोभद्रा नामक
लक्ष्मी का निवासस्थान माना जाता है । कहते हैं, नरकासुर की राजधानी यहीं थी । रामायण में लिखा है कि इस देश की राजधानी प्राग्ज्योतिषपुर को कुश के पुत्र अमूर्त्तरज ने
बसाया था ।
