Selenio, un elemento chimico con numero atomico 34, simbolo chimico Se e la massa atomica 78.96, è una sorta di elemento non metallico, chimicamente correlati a zolfo e tellurio, e raramente si trova sotto forma di un elemento in natura. Il selenio si trova in una forma isolata diversa e la forma è la forma più stabile di metallo grigio violaceo catena polimerica trigonale semi-strutturato denso. Il selenio drena l'elettricità meglio alla luce che al buio, quindi utilizzata nella fotosintesi. Selenio esiste anche in varie forme di non conduttivo, come una forma di nero allotropo kekacaan, così come una forma cristallina rosso risultante dalla otto anello membro zolfo molecolare simile. Il selenio si trova nel minerale di solfuro come la pirite, il quale selenio sostituisce lo zolfo nella matrice del minerale. Ci sono anche minerali sotto forma di selenide o composti selenici, ma raramente si trovano. Lo scopo principale del selenio di oggi è quello di fare vetro e di essere utilizzato in prodotti chimici e pigmenti.
