Strabone
Strabon (Strabo) - nella versione latinizzata di Strabo (n. 63 o 60 aC Amasa Pontica- (oggi Amasya) - d, 21 o 26 dC) era in realtà un soprannome, il che significa Sasu, indossato da un geografo greco antico storicamente famoso. Ha studiato in Asia Minore, Armenia, Grecia, Roma e Alessandria e ha viaggiato in Europa, Africa e Asia Minore al Mar Rosso. I primi schizzi storici, contenuti in 47 libri, scritti probabilmente tra il 27 aC. Ore e 7 dC, citati dagli autori che li hanno seguiti, sono stati quasi completamente persi. Poi scrisse Geografia in base alle proprie osservazioni e alle opere dei suoi predecessori, tra cui Homer, Eratosthenes, Polybius e Poseidonius. Il lavoro contiene, oltre al materiale storico, una serie di descrizioni di luoghi (clima, sollievo, idrografia) e popoli, con aspetti etnografici e mitologici, che costituiscono una ricca fonte di conoscenza dell'antico mondo.
