Bilinen kuru çay, %10 luk Pb ya da Ca2CO3 ile birlikte kaynatıldıktan sonra ayırma hunisinde kloroform ile ekstrakte edilir kalan alt faz alınıp içindeki kloroform uçurulur ve kalan sıvı süblimasyon yöntemi ile saflaştırılarak kafein elde edilebilir.
