モデムは、コンピュータによって生成されたデジタル信号を波形信号に変換する処理を実行するコンピュータ装置であり、電話線を介して送信することができ、その逆も可能である。 つまり、波信号をデジタル信号に変換する能力があります。 モデムは、モジュレータ - デモレータ、モジュレータおよびデコーダの英単語の略語です。 デジタル信号は、ライブおよびダイ機能によって表される一連の電子スイッチを含む信号であり、寿命機能は数字1で表され、死亡の機能は0で表される。この機能および文字の組み合わせを使用すると、コンピュータはテキスト、グラフィックスなどのデータ 。 アナログ信号とは異なり、電気的な線路やデータによる音波波形、波の強さや周波数帯に基づいて生成された情報です。 要するに、モデムは1および0信号を周波数だけでなく波形にも変換するように機能しています。

Modem merupakan peranti komputer yang melaksanakan proses yang menukarkan isyarat berbentuk digital yang dihasilkan oleh komputer kepada isyarat berbentuk gelombang supaya ia dapat dihantarkan menerusi talian telefon dan juga sebaliknya. Dengan pendek kata, ia berkemampuan untuk mengalihkan isyarat gelombang kepada isyarat digital. Modem ialah perkataan bahasa Inggeris yang merupakan singkatan bagi modulator-demolator, iaitu pemodulat dan penyahmodulat. Isyarat digital ialah isyarat yang mengandungi siri suis elektronik yang diwakili oleh ciri hidup dan mati, ciri hidupnya diwakili oleh angka 1, manakala ciri matinya pula diwakili oleh 0. Dengan penggunaan ciri ini serta kombinasi angkanyalah maka komputer mampu menghasilkan data berbentuk teks, grafik dan sebagainya. Berlainan pula dengan isyarat berbentuk analog, ia adalah isyarat berbentuk gelombang bunyi melalui talian elektrik dan data serta maklumat dihasilkan berasaskan kekuatan gelombang serta tahap frekuensinya. Ringkasnya, modem berfungsi mengubahkan isyarat berbentuk 1 dan 0 tadi kepada isyarat berbentuk gelombang serta frekuensi begitu jugalah sebaliknya.
