Dál Riata는 스코틀랜드의 서쪽 해안에있는 게일의 overkingdom이었고 아일랜드의 Ulster의 일부였습니다. 6 세기 후반과 7 세기 초반에 스코틀랜드의 Argyll과 Bute와 Lochaber와 얼 스터의 Antrim 카운티를 대략 포함했습니다. Argyll에서는 처음에는 북쪽과 중부의 Argyll에있는 Cenél Loairn, Kintyre에 본거지를 둔 Islay와 Cenél nGabráin을 기반으로하는 Cenél nengenga, Islay의 Cenél Chonchride는 주요 부서로 간주하기에는 너무 작았습니다. 7 세기 말에는 동부의 Argyll에 기반을 둔 Cenél Comgaill이 나타났습니다.
