회절
회절은 파도가 장애물이나 슬릿을 만나면 발생하는 다양한 현상을 말합니다. 고전 물리학에서 회절 현상은 Huygens Fresnel 원리에 따른 파동의 간섭으로 설명됩니다. 이러한 특징적인 행동은 파도가 파장과 크기가 비슷한 장애물이나 슬릿을 만나면 나타납니다. 광파가 다양한 굴절률을 갖는 매체를 통해 이동하거나 음파가 다양한 음향 임피던스를 갖는 매체를 통해 이동하는 경우에도 유사한 효과가 발생합니다. 회절은 음파, 수파 및 가시 광선, X- 선 및 전파와 같은 전자파를 비롯한 모든 파동에서 발생합니다. 물리적 인 물체는 물결 모양의 특성을 지니기 때문에 회절은 물질과 함께 발생하며 양자 역학의 원리에 따라 연구 될 수 있습니다. 이탈리아 과학자 Francesco Maria Grimaldi는 "회절 (diffraction)"이라는 단어를 만들어 1660 년에 정확한 현상을 기록한 최초의 사람이었다.

For X-rays, the phenomenon of diffraction by crystals was a natural consequence of the idea that X-rays are waves analogous to light and differ from it only by having a smaller wavelength.
I got bored with the topic; I felt this was 19th century physics. I was wondering if there was still something profound that could be made with light microscopy. So I saw that the diffraction barrier was the only important problem that had been left over.
