홀드 패스트 (stickfast)는 해초, 다른 고착 조류, 스토킹 된 크리 노이드 (stalked crognids), 저서 성 해면 동물 및 스폰지와 같은 수생 해성 유기체를 기질에 고정시키는 뿌리와 같은 구조입니다. 홀드 패스트는 종류와 기질 유형에 따라 모양과 형태가 다릅니다. 진흙 투성이의 기질에 서식하는 유기체의 보류는 종종 뿌리와 같은 성장의 복잡한 엉킴을 가지고 있습니다. 모래 기질에 사는 유기체는 전구 모양이며 매우 유연합니다. 예를 들어 바다 펜의 홀드 패스트 (holdfast)와 같이 홀드 패스트가 수축 될 때 유기체가 몸 전체를 기질로 끌어들이는 것을 허용합니다. 매끄러운 표면에 살고있는 유기체의 홀드 패스트는 문자 그대로 표면에 접착 된 홀드 패스트의 평평한 바닥을 가지고 있습니다. 유기체는 기판과의 친밀한 접촉으로부터 영양을 얻지 못한다. 기판으로부터 영양분을 유리시키는 과정은 효소 적으로 기판을 부식시켜 유기체가 기판으로부터 떨어질 위험을 증가시키기 때문이다.
