치성은 배위 착물의 중심 원자에 결합하는 단일 리간드 내의 원자의 수를 지칭한다. 많은 경우에 리간드의 한 원자 만이 금속에 결합하기 때문에 치사율은 1이고 리간드는 단량체라고합니다. 하나 이상의 결합 된 원자를 갖는 리간드는 다원 또는 다중 자리로 불린다. 낱말 denticity는 치아에서 파생됩니다, 치아에 대한 라틴어 단어. 리간드는 하나 이상의 연결 지점에서 금속을 물어 뜯는 것으로 생각됩니다. 리간드의 치성은 그리스 문자 κ로 기술된다. 예를 들어, κ6-EDTA는 6 개의 인접하지 않은 원자를 통해 조율하는 EDTA 리간드를 설명합니다. 치성 (denticity)은 촉각 (hapticity)이 배위 원자가 인접한 리간드를 독점적으로 지칭하기 때문에 촉각과는 다르다. 이러한 경우 η 표기법이 사용됩니다. 브리징 리간드는 μ 표기법을 사용합니다.
