컴퓨팅에서 멀티 태스킹은 같은 기간 동안 여러 작업이 수행되는 방식으로, 순차적으로 실행되는 대신 동시에 실행됩니다. 작업은 CPU 및 주 메모리와 같은 공통 처리 리소스를 공유합니다. 멀티 태스킹은 반드시 여러 작업이 정확히 동일한 순간에 실행되고 있음을 의미하지 않습니다. 다시 말해서 멀티 태스킹은 병렬 처리를 의미하지는 않지만 동시에 여러 작업이 부분 실행 방식 일 수 있으며 주어진 기간 동안 하나 이상의 작업이 진행되고 있음을 의미합니다. 단일 CPU가있는 컴퓨터의 경우 한 시점에 하나의 작업 만 실행 중이며 이는 CPU가 해당 작업에 대한 지침을 적극적으로 실행하고 있음을 의미합니다. 멀티 태스킹은 주어진 시간에 실행되는 태스크와 다른 대기 태스크가 차례가 될 때 어떤 태스크가 스케줄링되는지를 스케줄함으로써 문제점을 해결합니다. 한 작업에서 다른 작업으로 CPU를 재 할당하는 작업을 컨텍스트 스위치라고합니다. 컨텍스트 전환이 자주 발생하면 병렬 처리의 환상이 실현됩니다.

In computing, multitasking is a method where multiple tasks are performed during the same period of time – they are executed concurrently instead of sequentially. The tasks share common processing resources, such as a CPU and main memory. Multitasking does not necessarily mean that multiple tasks are executing at exactly the same instant. In other words, multitasking does not imply parallelism, but it does mean that more than one task can be part-way through execution at the same time, and more than one task is advancing over a given period of time. In the case of a computer with a single CPU, only one task is said to be running at any point in time, meaning that the CPU is actively executing instructions for that task. Multitasking solves the problem by scheduling which task may be the one running at any given time, and when another waiting task gets a turn. The act of reassigning a CPU from one task to another one is called a context switch. When context switches occur frequently enough, the illusion of parallelism is achieved.
