한국어 사전에서 캡시드 의 정의
캡시드 바이러스의 게놈(genome)인 핵산(核酸)을 감싸듯이 보호하고 있는 단백의 껍질(shell)인데, 구대칭(球對稱, cubic symmetry)과 나선대칭(螺旋對稱, helical symmetry) 2종류의 대칭성(對稱性)이 있다. 구대칭(球對稱)의 캡시드를 가진 바이러스는 캡소미어가 정20면체의 껍질을 형성하고 있으나, 나선대칭(螺旋對稱)의 캡시드에서는 캡소미어가 마치 나선계단처럼 배열해서 끈모양을 나타낸다.
