Parrot adalah sekumpulan burung yang membentuk order Psittaciformes. Ia terdiri dari 86 genus dan kira-kira 372 spesies. Ia boleh dijumpai di kebanyakan kawasan beriklim panas dan tropika. Order ini kemudian dibahagikan kepada tiga keluarga iaitu Psittacidae, Cacatuidae dan Strigopidae. Parrot ini bertaburan luas dan mendiami kawasan sederhana panas seperti di Hemisfera Selatan. Kepelbagaiannya dapat dilihat lebih tertumpu di kawasan Amerika Selatan dan Australasia. Ciri-ciri fizikal burung parrot ialah mempunyai paruh yang kuat dan melengkung, bertenggek tegak, mempunyai kaki yang kuat dan berkuku kaki zigodaktil. Kebanyakan parrot mempunyai warna yang terang dan jelas, serta terdapat juga beberapa yang mempunyai banyak warna. Bagi bulu pelepah burung kakaktua, kebiasaanya berwarna putih sehinggalah ke warna hitam dan juga berbulu pelepah yang boleh digerakkan di atas kepalanya. Kebanyakan parrot menunjukkan sedikit atau tiada langsung sifat dimorfisme seksnya. Di samping itu, parrot ini juga terdapat dalam pelbagai saiz. Diet pemakanan burung parrot ini kebiasaanya seperti bijirin, kekacang, buah, tunas dan lain-lain tumbuhan lagi.
