스테레오 또는 스테레오 사운드는 모노럴 또는 "모노"사운드 즉 단일 채널의 오디오와 비교하여 대칭형 스피커를 통해 적어도 두 개의 오디오 채널을 사용하여 여러 방향에서 소리를내는 것처럼 자연스럽게 듣는 것처럼 소리를내는 방법입니다 청력 장의 중심에서만 가능합니다. 스테레오 녹음은 일부 텔레비전 시스템뿐만 아니라 FM 방송 및 디지털 오디오 방송에도 사용됩니다. 사운드 엔지니어는 한 쌍의 지향성 마이크, 모든 마이크를 병렬로 배열하는 방법 또는 더 복잡한 기술을 사용하는 등 다양한 스테레오 녹음 방법을 사용합니다. Broadway 배우가 제작 한 오클라호마, 캐 러셀, 사우스 퍼시픽 (San Pacific footage)과 같은 모노 포닉 푸티지를 한 번 스테레오로 녹음 된 사운드를 출력하는 "가짜"스테레오 형태로 재현했습니다. 첫 번째 스테레오 방송은 1881 년 Clement Ader가 전화 시스템을 통해 제작했습니다. BBC는 1925 년 12 월 첫 번째 스테레오 라디오 방송을 발표했습니다.

Bunyi stereofonik atau stereo ialah kaedah pengeluaran bunyi dengan menggunakan sekurang-kurangnya dua saluran audio melalui penyusunan pembesar suara secara simetri agar memperdengarkan bunyi dari pelbagai arah seolah-olah mendengar sekeliling secara semula jadi, berbanding dengan bunyi monaural atau "mono" iaitu audio dari satu saluran sahaja di pusat medan pendengaran. Rakaman stereo digunakan untuk penyiaran FM dan Penyiaran Audio Digital serta sesetengah sistem televisyen. Jurutera bunyi menggunakan pelbagai kaedah rakaman stereo, termasuk menggunakan sepasang mikrofon berarah, sepasang mikrofon semua arah yang disusun selari, atau mana-mana teknik yang lebih rumit. Sesetengah rakaman monofonik seperti rakaman asal Oklahoma!, Carousel, dan South Pacific oleh barisan pelakon Broadway, pernah sekali dikeluarkan semula dalam bentuk stereo "palsu" untuk memperdengarkan bunyi yang seolah-olah asalnya dirakam secara stereo. Siaran stereo pertama dijayakan melalui sistem telefon oleh Clement Ader pada tahun 1881. BBC mengumandangkan siaran radio stereo pertama pada Disember 1925.
