पुस्तके नसलेली पुस्तके अशी माध्यमं आहेत जी पुस्तकं नाहीत. उदाहरणार्थ, सीडी आणि डीव्हीडी, खेळ, शिल्पकला किंवा चित्रकला, स्लाइड्स, ऑडिओ टेप, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक ऑनलाइन संसाधने इत्यादीसारख्या इलेक्ट्रॉनिक माध्यमांसारख्या इलेक्ट्रॉनिक माध्यमांचा यात समावेश आहे. पुस्तके आणि इतर माध्यमांमधील फरक ओळखण्यासाठी पुस्तक व्यापार आणि ग्रंथपाल नियमांच्या संदर्भात हा शब्द महत्त्वाचा आहे. पुस्तकेंप्रमाणे, बिगरखेरीज वॅट दर कमी करण्याच्या अधीन नाहीत ते सामान्यत: पुस्तक किंमत बंधनकारक नसतात. नॉन-बुक सामग्रीच्या वर्णानुक्रमाने कॅटलॉगिंगसाठी नियमांनुसार ते सूचीबद्ध आहेत.

Nichtbuchmaterialien sind Medien, die keine Bücher darstellen. Dazu gehören zum Beispiel elektronische Medien wie CDs und DVDs, Spiele, Kunstwerke wie Plastiken oder Gemälde, Dias, Tonbänder, elektronische Online-Ressourcen. Der Begriff ist im Buchhandel und im Rahmen Bibliothekarischer Regelwerke von Bedeutung, um Bücher und andere Medien voneinander abzugrenzen. Im Gegensatz zu Büchern gilt für Non-Books nicht der ermäßigte Mehrwertsteuersatz. Sie unterliegen in der Regel nicht der Buchpreisbindung. Sie werden nach den Regeln für die alphabetische Katalogisierung von Nichtbuchmaterialien katalogisiert.
