Phyllotaxis वनस्पतींचे पानांचे स्थितीत च्या शिकवण आहे. पाने सरळ रेषेवर व्यवस्थित नाहीत, परंतु त्यांची व्यवस्था विशिष्ट नियमांचे पालन करते. लिओनार्डो दा विंचीने या दैनंदिनीमध्ये आधीच हेच सांगितले होते की, वनस्पतिविज्ञानी कार्ल फ्रेडरिक शिमपर हे असे होते ज्याने गणितीय पद्धतीने मूळ सिद्धांतांची स्थापना केली होती. त्यांच्या कार्याद्वारे, 1830 च्या आसपास एक विशेष शेतीची स्थापना करण्यात आली, म्हणजे पानांची स्थिती, विदेशी भाषा फाईलोटॅक्सिसचे शिक्षण. विविध तांत्रिक संज्ञा, जसे की भिन्नता, सिकल, ऑर्थोस्टिक्स आणि पॅस्ट्रिक्स, हे शिमपर यांनी तयार केले होते फिल्डमध्ये अग्रस्थानी असलेल्या अलेक्झांडर ब्रॉनला, शिंपीने आपल्या संशोधनासाठी उत्तेजन दिले. ब्रॉनच्या शोधांमधे अनेकदा Schimper-Braun च्या पत्त्यांच्या स्थितीचा सिद्धान्त पहातात.

Die Phyllotaxis ist die Lehre von der Blattstellung von Pflanzen. Blätter sind am Stängel nicht wahllos angeordnet, sondern ihre Anordnung folgt vielmehr bestimmten Regeln. Obwohl bereits Leonardo da Vinci in seinen Tagebüchern auf diese Tatsache hingewiesen hatte, gilt der Botaniker Karl Friedrich Schimper als derjenige, der die dahinterstehenden Gesetzmäßigkeiten mathematisch begründet hat. Durch seine Arbeiten wurde um 1830 ein eigenes Fachgebiet begründet, nämlich die Lehre von der Blattstellung, fremdsprachlich Phyllotaxis. Mehrere noch heute verwendeten Fachbegriffe – so Divergenz, Cyclus, Orthostiche und Parastiche – wurden von Schimper geprägt. Alexander Braun, der ebenfalls auf dem Gebiet Pionierarbeit leistete, wurde durch Schimper zu seinen Forschungen angeregt. Aufgrund von Brauns Entdeckungen wird oft auch von der Schimper-Braun’schen Blattstellungslehre gesprochen.
