जर्मन: एल्सास, 1 99 6 पूर्वी: एल्साएट (लॅटिन: अलसैतिया) फ्रान्समधील 27 भागांतील पाचव्या क्रमांकाचा सर्वात कमी जमीन क्षेत्र (8,280 किमी 2) अल्सेसेट (फ्रेंच: अलसैस); अॅल्सेटियन: एलसस; आणि मेट्रोपॉलिटन फ्रान्समधील सर्वात लहान हे फ्रान्समधील सातव्या क्रमांकाचे घनता असलेले लोक आणि मेट्रोपॉलिटन फ्रान्समधील तिसऱ्या क्रमांकाचे घनता असलेले क्षेत्र आहे. प्रति km2 220 लोकसंख्या (2006 मध्ये एकूण लोकसंख्या: 1,815,488; 1 जानेवारी 2008 अंदाज: 1,836,000). अल्सेस हे फ्रान्सच्या पूर्व सीमेवर आणि जर्मनी व स्वित्झर्लंडच्या संलग्न असलेल्या वरच्या राइनच्या पश्चिम किनार्यावर वसले आहे. ऐतिहासिक निर्णय, युद्धे, आणि धोरणात्मक राजकारणामुळे अल्सेझला फ्रान्स गणराज्यमध्ये "क्षेत्र" म्हणून प्रशासित केले आहे. अल्सेसचे राजकीय, आर्थिक आणि सांस्कृतिक राजधानी तसेच सर्वात मोठे शहर स्ट्रासबर्ग आहे. कारण हे शहर अनेक आंतरराष्ट्रीय संस्था आणि निकालांचे आसन आहे कारण अल्से हे युरोपीयन युनियनमधील सर्वात महत्वाच्या क्षेत्रांपैकी एक आहे.
