बाइट / बाऊट / संगणकीय व टेलिकम्युनिकेशनमधील डिजिटल माहितीचा एक एक घटक आहे ज्यामध्ये सर्वात जास्त आठ बिट असतात. ऐतिहासिकदृष्ट्या, बाइट म्हणजे संगणकामधील एका वर्णाचे एक अक्षर एन्कोड करण्यासाठी वापरलेल्या बिट्सची संख्या आणि या कारणास्तव हे अनेक संगणक आर्किटेक्चर्समध्ये मेमरीमधील सर्वात लहान पत्ताापर्यंत एकक आहे. बाइटचा आकार ऐतिहासिकदृष्ट्या हार्डवेअरवर आधारित आहे आणि आकार निश्चित करण्यासाठी अस्तित्वात असलेल्या कोणतेही विशिष्ट मानक अस्तित्वात नाहीत. आठ बिट्सचे वास्तविक मानक दोन बाहेरील व्हॅल्यू 0 ते 255 अशी दोन सोयीची क्षमता आहे. आंतरराष्ट्रीय मानक आयईसी 80000-13 या सामान्य अर्थाने कोडित केले आहे. बर्याच प्रकारचे ऍप्लिकेशन्स आठ किंवा त्यापेक्षा कमी बिट्स आणि प्रोसेसर डिझाइनर मध्ये वापरली जाणारी माहिती वापरतात जे या सामान्य वापरासाठी अनुकूलित करतात. मोठ्या व्यावसायिक संगणकीय आर्किटेक्चर्सची लोकप्रियता 8-बीट आकाराच्या सर्वव्यापी स्वीकृतीसह सहाय्य करण्यात आली आहे. युनिट ऑकटेटची व्याख्या 8 बिट्सच्या क्रमाने स्पष्टपणे करण्यात आली कारण त्या वेळी बाइटसह संबंधित अस्पष्टता होती.
इंग्रजी शब्दकोशातील byte व्याख्या
शब्दकोशमध्ये बाइटची पहिली व्याख्या बिट्सचा समूह आहे, सामान्यत: आठ, डेटाच्या एका युनिटच्या रूपात प्रक्रिया केली जाते. बाइटची दुसरी व्याख्या स्मृती किंवा इतर स्टोरेज डिव्हाइसमधील संचयन जागा आहे जी बिट्सच्या अशा एका गटासाठी वाटली जाते. बाइट हा शब्दाचा उपविभाग देखील आहे.
