युट्रोफिकेशन किंवा अधिक तंतोतंत हायपरट्रॉफिकेशन, पाण्यातील यंत्रास कृत्रिम किंवा नैसर्गिक घटक जसे की नायट्रेट व फॉस्फेट, उर्वरके किंवा सांडपाल्याने, पर्यावरणातील प्रतिसाद आहे. एक उदाहरण म्हणजे "ब्लूम" किंवा पाश्चात्त्यांच्या वाढीव पातळीच्या प्रतिसादाप्रमाणे पाण्यातल्या पाईपॅलॅक्टटनची मोठी वाढ आहे. नकारात्मक पर्यावरणीय प्रभावांमध्ये हायपोक्सियाचा समावेश होतो, पाण्यात ऑक्सिजन कमी होते, ज्यामुळे विशिष्ट मासे आणि इतर प्राणी कमी होते. अन्य प्रजाती लोकसंख्या वाढवण्याचा अनुभव घेऊ शकतात ज्या नकारात्मक परिणामांना इतर प्रजातींना प्रभावित करतात.
