Gerbera एल सूर्यफूल कुटुंब पासून शोभेच्या वनस्पती एक प्रकारचा आहे. जर्मन वनस्पतिशास्त्रज्ञ आणि निसर्गवादी ट्रॉगॉट गेबर यांच्या सन्मानार्थ हे नाव देण्यात आले आहे. ते रशियात मोठ्या प्रमाणात प्रवास करीत होते आणि कार्लोस लिनियसचे मित्र होते. जंगलात तिचा अंदाजे 30 प्रजाती आहे, जो दक्षिण अमेरिका, आफ्रिका आणि उष्णकटिबंधीय आशियात आहे. गेर्बेराचे पहिले वैज्ञानिक वर्णन कारासच्या बोटॅनिकल मॅगझीन मधील जे.डि. हूकर यांनी 18 9 8 मध्ये जेर्बेरा जेम्सोनी नावाचे दक्षिण आफ्रिकेतील एक प्रजाती वर्णन केले जे ट्रान्सव्हल डेझी किंवा बार्बर्टन डेजी म्हणून ओळखले जाते. गेर्बेरा देखील आफ्रिकन डेझी म्हणून ओळखले जाते.
