हेतुपुरस्सर दृष्टिकोन वैधानिक आणि घटनात्मक अर्थाने एक दृष्टीकोन आहे ज्या अंतर्गत सामान्य कायदा न्यायालये त्यासाठी अधिनियमित करण्यात आलेली उद्दीष्टाच्या कार्याची व्याख्या करतात. हेयडॉनच्या खटल्यात स्थापन करण्यात आलेली अनिष्ट प्रथा अमूर्त स्वरूपाची आहे. निष्कर्षांचा अर्थ लाजिरवाण्या नियमांकरिता बदलण्याचा एक प्रकार आहे, साध्या अर्थ नियम आणि प्रकरणांची निर्धारीत करण्यासाठी सुवर्ण नियम. न्यायालये कायद्याची पूर्व-अंमलबजावणी टप्प्यातून बाह्य वस्तूंचा वापर करतात तेव्हा प्रारंभिक मसुदे, हॅन्सर्ड, कमिटी अहवाल, पांढरे कागदपत्र इत्यादींचा वापर करताना उद्दीष्टेचा अर्थ लावला जातो. उद्देशाच्या अर्थाने बहिष्कार करणारा नियम नाकारणे यांचा समावेश आहे. इस्रायली न्यायाधिष्ठ Aharon Barak, कायदेशीर बांधकाम म्हणून हेतुपुरस्सर अर्थ लावणे, जे व्यक्तिनिष्ठ आणि उद्देश दोन्ही घटकांची जोडणी. बाराक व्यक्तिनिष्ठ घटक मजकूर लेखकाचा उद्देश अंतर्भूत असे सूचविते, तर उद्देश घटक वाजवी लेखक आणि कायदेशीर प्रणाली मूलभूत मूल्ये हेतू समावेश.
