रेखा किंवा सरळ रेषांचा विचार प्राचीन गणितज्ञांनी निष्प्रभ रुंदी आणि खोलीसह सरळ वस्तूंचे प्रतिनिधित्व करण्यासाठी सादर केले. रेखा अशा गोष्टींचे आदर्शीकरण आहे सतराव्या शतकापर्यंत, याप्रकारे रेषा परिभाषित केल्या होत्या: "रेषा ही प्रथम प्रजाती आहे, ज्यामध्ये केवळ एक परिमाण आहे, म्हणजे लांबी, कोणतीही रुंदी किंवा खोली नाही, आणि बिंदूच्या प्रवाह किंवा धावापेक्षा काहीही नाही त्याच्या काल्पनिक कल्पनेतून काही प्रमाणात हिसकावून सोडून द्या, कोणत्याही रुंदीमुक्त करा "सरळ रेषा ही त्याच्या गुणांदरम्यान तितकीच विस्तारली आहे" असे युक्लिडने वर्णन केले आहे की "रुंदीची लांबी" अशी एक ओळ आहे, आणि त्यातून निर्माण झालेली मूळ असमर्थनीय मालमत्ता एकोणिसाव्या शतकाच्या शेवटी पासून इतर भूमिती सह गोंधळ टाळण्यासाठी ज्या भूमितीला आता युक्लिडियन भूमिती असे म्हटले जाते. आधुनिक गणित मध्ये, भौगोलिक लोकसंख्येस दिलेली, रेखाची संकल्पना ज्या भूमितीचे वर्णन केले आहे त्याच्या जवळ आहे.
