पश्चिम जर्मनिक भाषा जर्मनिक भाषेच्या तीन पारंपारिक शाखांपैकी सर्वात मोठा आहे आणि त्यात जर्मन, इंग्रजी, डच, अफ्रिकान्स, फ्रिशियन भाषा, लो सॅक्सन भाषा आणि यिद्दी यासारख्या भाषा समाविष्ट आहेत. जर्मनिक भाषांच्या या तीनपैकी दोन पारंपरिक शाखा उत्तर व पूर्व जर्मनिक शाखा आहेत, ज्याचे नंतर अस्तित्वात होते. काही भाषातज्ञ दावा करतात की आधुनिक इंग्रजी हा पश्चिम गटांऐवजी उत्तर जर्मनिक गटाचा भाग आहे.
