पोलिसांनी राष्ट्रीय कायद्यानुसार समाजाची सुरक्षा आणि स्थिरता सुनिश्चित करण्यासाठी जबाबदार असलेल्या सरकारी संस्था पहा. शासनाच्या आत ते कार्यकारी शाखेत आहेत - नागरी कायद्याचे निष्पादक सरकारमधील एक अत्यंत महत्त्वाची शाखा म्हणून, पोलिस शब्द योग्य आहेत कारण पॉलिटेय म्हणजे ग्रीक भाषिक किंवा प्रशासकीय इंग्लंडमधील कन्स्टेबल या नावाने ओळखल्या गेलेल्या अर्ध्या देशास इंग्रजी शब्द कॉन्स्टेबलने घेतले, पोलिस अधिकाऱ्यांचे नाव.
