Jego północna ściana znana jest pod kilkoma nazwami: Eigerwand, Nordwand lub Mordwand – to nazwa, jaką zaczęto określać ją po wielu tragicznie zakończonych próbach jej zdobycia. W 1912 roku ukończono budowę kolejki zębatej na przełęcz Jungfraujoch, która biegnie przez kilka kilometrów we wnętrzu Eigeru.
