Permutasi adalah susunan objek dalam susunan tertentu dalam gabungan. Bergantung kepada sama ada atau tidak sesetengah objek dibenarkan berlaku berulang kali, seseorang bercakap mengenai permutasi dengan pengulangan atau permutasi tanpa pengulangan. Bilangan permutasi tanpa pengulangan diberikan sebagai fakulti, manakala bilangan permutasi dengan pengulangan diberikan oleh pekali multinomial. Dalam teori kumpulan, satu permutasi tanpa pengulangan adalah bijak pemetaan diri set yang lazim, dengan bilangan semulajadi yang pertama biasanya digunakan sebagai kuantiti rujukan. Set permutasi nombor semulajadi pertama membentuk kumpulan simetri gelaran dengan penggantian sebagai pautan. Elemen neutral dari kumpulan ini mewakili permutasi yang sama, manakala unsur songsang adalah permutasi terbalik. Sub kumpulan kumpulan simetri adalah kumpulan permutasi. Pemboleh ubah kunci utama permutasi adalah jenis siklik mereka, pesanan mereka dan tanda mereka.
