Apabila dieja dengan modal "A", perkataan "Sekutu" biasanya menandakan negara-negara yang berperang melawan kuasa-kuasa pusat dalam Perang Dunia I, atau mereka yang bertempur melawan kuasa Axis dalam Perang Dunia II. Istilah ini juga telah digunakan oleh Tentera Amerika Syarikat untuk menggambarkan negara-negara yang memberi bantuan kepada Vietnam Selatan semasa Perang Vietnam.
