Kerjasama Ekonomi Asia Pasifik adalah forum bagi 21 ahli ekonomi Rim Rim yang bertujuan untuk menggalakkan kerjasama perdagangan dan ekonomi bebas di seluruh rantau Asia Pasifik. Ia ditubuhkan pada tahun 1989 sebagai tindak balas kepada pertumbuhan saling ketergantungan ekonomi Asia Pasifik dan kemunculan blok perdagangan serantau di bahagian lain di dunia; ketakutan bahawa Jepun yang sangat perindustrian akan datang untuk menguasai aktiviti ekonomi di rantau Asia Pasifik; dan menubuhkan pasaran baru untuk produk pertanian dan bahan mentah di luar Eropah. APEC berfungsi untuk meningkatkan taraf hidup dan tahap pendidikan melalui pertumbuhan ekonomi yang mampan dan untuk meningkatkan rasa masyarakat dan penghargaan kepentingan bersama di kalangan negara-negara Asia Pasifik. APEC merangkumi ekonomi perindustrian baru, walaupun agenda perdagangan bebas adalah isu sensitif untuk membangunkan NIE pada masa APEC diasaskan, dan bertujuan untuk membolehkan ekonomi-ekonomi ASEAN meneroka peluang pasaran eksport baru untuk sumber semula jadi seperti gas asli, serta mencari integrasi ekonomi serantau dengan cara pelaburan langsung asing.
