Khalifah
Khalifah adalah ketua negara dalam kekhalifahan, dan gelaran penguasa Umat Islam, sebuah masyarakat Islam yang diperintah oleh Syari'ah. Perkataan itu berasal dari bahasa Arab خليفة Khalīfa. Berikutan kematian Muhammad pada tahun 632, pemimpin awal negara Islam dipanggil Khalifat Rasul Allah, pengganti politik kepada utusan Tuhan. Sesetengah ahli akademik lebih suka melafalkan istilah itu sebagai Khalifah. Calipha adalah seorang khalifah perempuan atau isteri atau balu khalifah. Terdapat satu contoh yang diketahui dalam sejarah bahawa khalifah memerintah khalifah: Sitt al-Mulk adalah bupati Khalifah Fatimid dari 1021 hingga 1023. Beberapa khalifah, seperti Zaynab an-Nafzawiyyah dan Al-Khayzuran binti Atta, mempunyai pengaruh besar dalam mahkamah suami mereka.
