Kapasitor farad 1, apabila dikenakan dengan 1 coulomb cas elektrik, mempunyai perbezaan potensi 1 volt di antara platnya. Dari segi sejarah, farad dianggap sebagai unit besar yang sukar, baik secara elektrik dan fizikal.
