Komet
Komet adalah badan Sistem Suria kecil yang berais yang, ketika melayang dekat dengan Matahari, memanas dan mula keluar, memaparkan suasana atau koma yang kelihatan, dan kadang kala juga ekor. Fenomena ini adalah disebabkan oleh kesan sinaran suria dan angin suria atas nukleus komet. Nukleus komet berkisar dari beberapa ratus meter hingga puluhan kilometer merentas dan terdiri daripada koleksi longgar ais, habuk, dan zarah berbatu kecil. Koma dan ekor lebih besar, dan jika cukup terang dapat dilihat dari Bumi tanpa bantuan teleskop. Komet telah diperhatikan dan direkodkan sejak zaman purba oleh banyak budaya yang berbeza. Komet mempunyai pelbagai tempoh orbit, dari beberapa tahun hingga beberapa juta tahun.
