Swift yang biasa adalah seekor burung bersaiz sederhana, dengan dangkal serupa dengan menelan bangsal atau rumah martin tetapi agak lebih besar. Mereka tidak pernah menyelesaikan secara sukarela di atas tanah, di mana mereka akan terdedah kepada kemalangan dan pemusnahan.
