Persaingan juga merupakan prinsip utama ekonomi pasaran dan perniagaan sering dikaitkan dengan persaingan kerana kebanyakan syarikat bersaing dengan sekurang-kurangnya satu firma lain berbanding kumpulan pelanggan yang sama, dan persaingan di dalam syarikat biasanya dirangsang untuk memenuhi dan mencapai kualiti yang lebih tinggi perkhidmatan atau produk yang dihasilkan atau dimajukan oleh syarikat.
