Komuniti Ekonomi Negara Afrika Barat adalah kumpulan serantau lima belas negara Afrika Barat. Diasaskan pada 28 Mei 1975, dengan menandatangani Perjanjian Lagos, misinya adalah untuk mempromosikan integrasi ekonomi di rantau ini. Dianggap sebagai salah satu tonggak dari Komuniti Ekonomi Afrika, organisasi itu diasaskan untuk mencapai "kebolehan kolektif" bagi negara-negara anggotanya dengan mewujudkan satu blok perdagangan tunggal melalui kesatuan ekonomi dan perdagangan. Ia juga berfungsi sebagai pasukan pengaman di rantau ini. Organisasi ini beroperasi secara rasmi dalam tiga bahasa yang setara-Perancis, Inggeris, dan Portugis. ECOWAS terdiri daripada dua institusi untuk melaksanakan dasar - Suruhanjaya ECOWAS dan Bank ECOWAS untuk Pelaburan dan Pembangunan, yang dahulunya dikenali sebagai Dana Kerjasama sehingga ia dinamakan semula pada tahun 2001. Beberapa ahli organisasi telah datang dan pergi selama bertahun-tahun. Pada tahun 1976 Tanjung Verde menyertai ECOWAS, dan pada Disember 2000 Mauritania menarik diri, setelah mengumumkan hasratnya untuk melakukannya pada bulan Disember 1999.
